Madeleine McCann's disappearance has never been concluded

On Monday, Leicester Crown Court heard communication data and information retrieved from phones recorded Ms Wandelt consistently asking Madeleine's mother for a genetic test during the past two years.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - when she was three years old during a trip in Portugal - is among the most publicized missing child cases and remains unsolved.

'I Don't Want Money'

A separate recorded message, shared in court, captured Ms Wandelt stating: "I understand I'm overweight and not pretty like Madeleine had been, but I know what I know."

While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's answerphone said: "Imagine there is a tiny probability that I am she? What happens next? Isn't that important for you?"

"I am not seeking money, I have a life here in Poland, I only wish to understand," the recording stated.

The jury was told that through electronic messages, text messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt requested a biological test, forwarded youth pictures to her phone in a attempt to display a similarity to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and asserted to have "flashbacks" from a youth with the McCanns.

An intelligence analyst, an investigator with the police force who gathered the data, advised the court there "didn't appear to be any answers" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt furthermore communicated with close associates of the McCanns, based on the phone records.

On that date, the father answered a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "a wrong number."

On that occasion Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's voicemail declaring "I won't give up and I will prove my point."

The court learned the co-defendant struck up a connection online with Ms Wandelt preceding accompanying her on a trip to the McCanns' property in that area in that winter.

Communication data showed Mrs Spragg had reached out via WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to express the news outlets had depicted Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she deserved to be treated respectfully in the months preceding the appearance to that location, that area, in December 2024.

The court heard correspondence between the two individuals, in last November, discussing attempting to get Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from silverware at a eating establishment.

"We have to make a stand," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.

On the evening of the visit to their home, Mrs Spragg transmitted a text which said: "We are positioned near the McCanns' home with our vehicle dark like investigators. I had hoped to do this with another person I never thought I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."

The case ongoing.
