Adult Swim's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Secures a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network introduced a fresh animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often marked by dark humor, this show's earnestness struck a chord and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who found the show and supported its peculiarly charming style.

"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about watching this endearing family go about their daily lives.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running layer of irony. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well catalyze that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to experience the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
