Edwards together with O'Neil both have past links with Wolves
Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the early names under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The previous coach was sacked on Sunday after the team's ten-game without a victory beginning to the top-flight season.
And both candidates - each of whom have historic associations to the team - are part of the names to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.
Edwards is presently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.
However the former Luton Town manager - who made over a century of games for Wolves during his playing career - is considered a strong candidate for the position.
The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys support from the club directors as they begin the process of appointing a fresh manager.
O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, although he would be a shock appointment given he was released by Wolves in December last year.
The ex- West Ham United midfielder is currently unemployed meaning Wolves would not be required to provide any compensation.
