Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
