Arne Slot admitted that it's expected for questions to be raised about his position following another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the club's worst streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received significant backing from above,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory of course but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He added, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this match yet so let’s see.”
The manager expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell such as this with results this poor.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until it is taken away, we will always compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to its rightful place, prove again the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
