The sports venue in the city was covered in smoke ahead of the scheduled beginning
The domestic football league rivalry match between Maccabi Tel Aviv and their city rivals was abandoned before commencement on the weekend, following what law enforcement described as "civil unrest and major clashes".
"Dozens of smoke grenades and fireworks were thrown," authorities posted on digital channels, emphasizing "this is not a match, it represents chaos and serious violence".
Twelve individuals and several officers were harmed, authorities reported, while multiple persons were detained and sixteen questioned by police.
The unrest happen just a short time after officials in the UK stated that followers of the club ought to be banned to attend the European competition match at the English club in England the following month because of security issues.
The local club criticised the game abandonment, alleging Israeli police of "gearing up for a war, rather than a sporting event", particularly during meetings in the lead-up to the highly-anticipated encounter.
"The alarming incidents outside the venue and following the reckless and unacceptable ruling to abandon the game only show that the law enforcement has assumed command over the game," the club said in a statement.
The other team has remained silent, merely stating the game was called off.
The decision by the local safety committee to prohibit the team's supporters from the Birmingham game on the sixth of November has triggered extensive disapproval.
The UK government has subsequently stated it is working to overturn the prohibition and investigating what extra measures might be needed to guarantee the match can be hosted safely.
Aston Villa notified their stadium staff that they could choose not to participate at the game, stating they understood that some "may have concerns".
On earlier in the week, local authorities said it backed the prohibition and classified the fixture as "high risk" based on reports and earlier occurrences.
That included "physical confrontations and hate-crime offences" between the Dutch team and their supporters before a fixture in the Dutch capital in the previous year, when numerous persons were detained.
There have been rallies at several athletic competitions over the situation in Gaza, including when Israel competed against the Scandinavian team and Italy in recent football World Cup qualifiers.
